1. Why did you choose a career in infection prevention and control?
I had an opportunity to work with our Infection control team a few years back and that’s where it all started. It motivates me with a strong desire and passion for infection prevention and control and to contribute to a role in preventing the spread of infectious diseases in healthcare settings and in communities.
2. What advice would you give someone who is interested in an infection prevention and control career?
A career in infection prevention and control is both engaging and challenging. It often requires teamwork and collaboration with various healthcare professionals. We can build good interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams.
3. What does being a CIC® mean to you?
Attaining the CIC® certification helped me to work confidently in the field of infection prevention and control and improve my knowledge of infection control. CIC® signifies expertise, commitment, and leadership in the field of infection prevention and control. Being certified as a CIC really motivates me to continue in the field of Infection Prevention and Control.
4. What was the best studying method for you when preparing for the initial certification examination?
I reviewed the APIC textbook and CBIC study guide for preparing the initial certification examination. The study guide questionnaire truly helped me to know more about the pattern of the questionnaire and I reviewed it three to four times before the exam. Being an APIC member also assisted me in getting access to more reading materials on Infection Prevention and Control.
5. What advice would you give someone pursuing certification?
Prepare your study plan systematically to read all the necessary materials including APIC Textbooks and self-study guides. Utilize all resources to gain knowledge and give more importance to
6. How do you stay up-to-date on infection prevention and control practices?
Staying up to date with the national regulations and recommended practices in Infection Control, attending available APIC, CDC, and WHO webinars and courses relating to Infection Prevention and Control.
7. How has the CIC® helped you grow professionally and in your career?
CIC helped me to become more independent in planning and implementing Infection Prevention and control measures in my facility. It allowed me to perform better analysis in the professional field with a strong knowledge base during the certification journey.
