1. Why did you choose a career in infection prevention and control?

I chose a career in infection prevention and control because I’m passionate about protecting people and improving healthcare systems. It’s a field where I can make a direct impact on patient safety, reduce harm, and ensure better outcomes. It’s fulfilling to know my work contributes to healthier, safer environments.

2. What advice would you give someone who is interested in an infection prevention and control career?

My advice is to stay curious and always be willing to learn. Infection control is ever-evolving, so gaining hands-on experience and seeking certifications can help build your expertise. It’s a rewarding career where you make a real difference, so stay passionate and committed to continuous improvement.

3. What does being a CIC® mean to you?

Being CIC® represents a personal and professional milestone for me. It’s a reflection of my dedication to infection prevention and a commitment to upholding the highest standards in healthcare. It gives me the tools to lead confidently, make informed decisions, and continually improve patient safety.

4. What was the best studying method for you when preparing for the initial certification examination?

The best method for me was breaking the material into small, manageable sections and studying consistently. I focused on understanding key concepts rather than memorizing. I also used practice questions to test myself and identify areas for improvement, which kept me engaged and confident. 

5. What advice would you give someone pursuing certification?

My advice is to stay consistent, focus on understanding concepts, and use practice questions to strengthen weak areas. Make a study plan that works for you and don’t hesitate to ask for guidance. Most importantly, believe in yourself and trust the process—you’ll get there!

6. How do you stay up-to-date on infection prevention and control practices?

I stay up-to-date by regularly reading journals, research articles, and guidelines. I also attend webinars, conferences, and engage with professional networks to exchange ideas. Staying connected with colleagues in the field helps me learn about the latest trends and challenges, keeping me informed and adaptable.

8. How has the CIC® helped you grow professionally and in your career?

The CIC® has helped me grow by giving me a deeper understanding of infection control, boosting my confidence in decision-making. It has opened doors for career advancement, allowed me to lead with credibility, and given me the tools to educate and influence others in the field. It’s been a key factor in my professional development.
