1. Why did you choose a career in infection prevention and control?

The reason behind choosing infection prevention & control was that by simple IPC practices we may prevent healthcare associated infection, improve healthcare quality and patient satisfaction from patient safety point of view.

Preventive practices are always better than the curative ones, this I selected IPC as field to save lives of patients and public in healthcare facilities and the community respectively.

2. What advice would you give someone who is interested in an infection prevention and control career?

Infection Prevention & Control is not just only a profession, it is a sacred job to do, and thus you should dedicated yourself for the better healthcare in the country and be passionate about your work.

3. What does being a CIC® mean to you?

CIC is not only a confidence regarding my professional abilities but it is also a guide toward standardized approaches toward 
healthcare. CIC equips me with all needed knowledge and skills that I wanted for my profession.

4. How has being a CIC® helped you navigate the current COVID-19 climate?

As I have recently registered as CIC, but I have been working as Infection Control person such as I worked as consultant with 
Jhpiego-A John Hopkins University affiliate in COVID-19 project, I witnessed that having Infection 
Prevention & Control knowledge and skills were very important not only in health facilities but also in the vaccine centers. 
We promoted infection prevention & control practices to make sure that the patients and healthcare providers
both remain safe from COVID-19.

5. What was the best studying method for you when preparing for the initial certification examination?

As I have experience of working in healthcare industry as Infection Prevention officer, I used to study one

chapter and then apply it in the health care facility. I also used major organizations’ websites for advanced

knowledge such as that of APIC, CDC, SHEA, IDSA etc. I highlighted key information in APIC books and revised it 2-3 times.

6. What advice would you give someone pursuing certification?

Take the CIC exam preparation as a learning opportunity and not as a compulsory exam, it will not only help you improve your

practices of IPC but it will also help you remember key information free from any pressure of examination

How do you stay up-to-date on infection prevention and control practices?

As I mentioned , I have registered myself with key technical bodies such as CDC, SHEA, APIC and IDSA. These websites regularly 
share new guidance and information that are very productive not only for examination but also for the profession.

8. How has the CIC® helped you grow professionally and in your career

CIC has provided me the identity of infection prevention & control and confidence in the field. I am able to improve the IPC practices

in my areas of work. I am also able to enjoy the respect and confidence owing to my CIC.
