1. Why you choose a career in Infection Prevention & Control?

The call for becoming an Infection control nurse was indeed not voluntary but as I assumed the role, I was sure that this was the perfect vocation for me and I was thoroughly enjoying the challenges that came as a course of it. 

2. What advice would you give to someone who is interested in an infection prevention and control
career?

My advice to all aspiring IPs would be to keep yourself just as an empty cup because the scope of infection prevention is dynamic and as you dive deep into it, you would be thrilled and proud to know more about it. The various areas involve you and our OPINION MATTERS.

3. What does being a CIC® mean to you?

During the period of my role assumption and understanding, I realized that the certification in infection control will not only add a feather to my crown but also help me get a thorough understanding of the various aspects and dimensions involving my role with clarity and confidence.
Becoming CIC has not only added a feather to my crown but has also strengthened my commitment to the IPC profession, vocational expertise, and resourcefulness.

4. What was the best studying method for you when preparing for the initial certification?

I have resorted to APIC text on Infection control and epidemiology and watched lots of podcasts related to CIC BY Luz Caicedo and many other CIC professionals.
Question Bank of Certification study guide, 6th edition.

5. What advice would you give to someone pursuing certification?

I would highly recommend each one of you to prepare well in advance because the areas covered are vast and hence you would need time to cover all elements as in the exams you will be asked from all sections for sure.

6. How do you stay up to date on Infection Prevention and Control Practices?

I resort to resources from APIC text, Seminars, and meetings of Infection control link associates from various organizations who share opinions and update information on new emerging concepts and research practices.

7. How has the CIC® helped you grow professionally in your career?

The knowledge and skills gained from the certification have widened the horizon of my scope of practice and I can now initiate quick and prompt responses to most of the doubts about Infection control in my organization and hence increased my quest and confidence for the same.
