Andrea Flinchum, MPH, BSN, RN, CIC, LTC-CIP, FAPIC, FRSPH

Work/APIC: Ms. Flinchum works as the coordinator for the Healthcare-associated Infection/Antibiotic Resistance Prevention Program at the Kentucky Department for Public Health. She joined the state health department in 2011 and was promoted to manager of the program in 2012. In addition to appointment to the CBIC Board, Ms. Flinchum has participated on the test committee as an item writer, serving three terms starting in 2014. She was President of her local APIC chapter in 2014-2015 and the Education Chair in 2009-2010. In 2015, she was awarded the Sally Reeves Recognition Award by her local chapter, Bluegrass APIC. As the HAI Coordinator for Kentucky, Ms. Flinchum is a member of all three state chapters in the state.
Since 2017, Ms. Flinchum has been a member The Council of Outbreak Response: Healthcare-associated Infections/Antibiotic Resistant Organisms (CORHA), serving on one of the workgroups. She is a member of the Council of State and Territorial Epidemiologists (CSTE) and is a member of the CSTE/HAI Subcommittee.
Prior to joining public health, her career began at the University of Kentucky Healthcare in 1988. Ms. Flinchum provided bedside care to patients for 17 years, predominantly in the Neurosurgery Intensive Care Unit. In 2005, she joined the Infection Prevention and Control Department. Ms. Flinchum holds an ADN, BSN, and a MPH. Her CIC was earned shortly after 2 years in the program. She has also earned her LTC-CIP and FAPIC designations.
Personal note:
Andrea has two grown daughters with whom she enjoys traveling, sports, and "hanging out" together. She also enjoys gardening and all things horses. She is a proud member of the Big Blue Nation supporting the University of Kentucky Wildcats.
